Imagism, Pastoralism, New Formalism, and other poetry movements and groups often developed and used a set of rules (intentionally and unintentionally) that guided their poetry writings. We'll start a brief discussion about some of your favorite poems, poets, and poetry movements. This will be the guideline for your prompts. Over the course of 10 poems we will discuss the rules often associated with the specific prompt, what they do for or take away from the writer, and how the writer can claim specific parts of the prompt's guidelines for their own purposes. For the 11th poem of this workshop, the writer develops his or her own set of rules as a guide for the workshop's final poem.
Note: We strongly suggest you attend this workshop with a group of close writing peers to take advantage of the style of the workshop.
